London West Young Liberal News |
|
London West Young Liberals, as an active organization, certainly lives up to its title, as it itself is young and in its beginning stages. I suppose we can be compared to a toddler, early in development, but full of life and activity. We are planning six events for 2009, have recently had an event at the London Food Bank, are looking to initiate an Ontario Young Liberal (OYL)-certified Youth Club this January, and have established the London West Liberal Super Youth.
As I write this we are preparing for our event at the Food Bank. It will be on Saturday, December 13th, 2008. In advance, I would like to thank Jane Roy for allowing us to volunteer and co-ordinating the event for the Food Bank, Matt Brown, Stu Mutch, and Brian Orton for helping to plan the event, and all those who will attend.
Like I mentioned earlier, I am looking to establish a Like I mentioned earlier, I am looking to establish a Provincial and a Federal OYL-certified Youth Club. These clubs will be recognized by the Ontario Liberal Party and the Liberal Party of Canada. Though they will be separate groups, the aim is to include both clubs and their memberships in the same events, meetings, and other happenings.
Super Youth is something that will be initiated at the Food Bank Event. It will be made official at the founding meeting of the Youth Club. It is a group of youth aged zero through 14 of kids who are not yet old enough to be voting members of the riding association, but who hope to be one day. This group is meant to foster interested and involvement in politics, and increase and enhance the membership of the riding association in the years to come. Members will be invited to youth events and meetings, and also encouraged to volunteer at, and attend various events of the riding association. To obtain a membership, the young person must volunteer at either a youth event or an event of the riding association.
Next year’s youth events are already in the planning stages. We will have the founding meeting of our Youth Club in January, a tree planting event in the spring, a trip to Toronto next summer, our second Youth Green Day garbage clean-up in the fall, and another event at the Food Bank around this time next year. The date of our club’s founding meeting is January 11th, 2009 at 1:30pm. It will be held at the Civic Garden Complex at 625 Springbank Drive. Ten youth members (aged 14-25) of the corresponding riding association. So if you are, or know a youth member, be sure you, or they, attend this meeting. Information regarding the four subsequent events will be announced as it becomes available, however we have determined that the trip to Toronto will include a tour of Queen’s Park and hopefully a Blue Jay’s baseball game.
Apart from the most recent American presidential election, youth in North America seem to have a drastically decreasing interest in politics these days. This is why it is so integral that the London West Young Liberals make each of our events a mixture of fun, impact, and politics. This must be done in order to attract and retain the political involvement of youth, because young people are the future of this riding association, this party, this country, and this world.
My goal is to make Liberal youth in London West will become a force to be reckoned with in years to come. With your help, I hope to get more youth politically active, and by doing so, make a positive impact on both the riding association and the riding. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Founding Meeting of London West Federal Youth Club
On January 11th the London West Federal Liberal Youth Club was established. This is a very important step for youth in London West. The club will be recognized by the Ontario Young Liberals (OYL), and Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario) (LPCO). Thanks to all who attended, and to the Chair of the meeting, Josh Morgan. Youth will continue to grow as a strong and energetic force in the LWFLA. New members are always welcome.
Youth Event at London Food Bank
Thanks to everyone who attended, it was a huge success. There were twenty seven people in attendance including super youth (as young as 3 months), youth (14-25), and young at heart (youth wannabes). A special thank you to Matt Brown, Stu Mutch, and Brian Orton for helping to organize this event, our MPP Chris Bentley who was in attendance, and Jane Roy, assistant director of the Food Bank for arranging the event with the Food Bank, and making the event possible. We look forward to a return trip to the Food Bank! |

Hello, and welcome to the Youth section of the London West Federal Liberal Association website. Youth are an important part of our riding association because they are the future of not just the riding association, but the world.
Young Liberals in London West are a small group of hard working, fun, and dedicated people just like you. Like I said, we are a small group but are looking to expand. Last May we held our first youth event called "Youth Green Day". We picked up litter in Thames Park in London, and then had a free BBQ. We more recently had an event at the London Food Bank on December 13th, and are a tree planting event for the spring. Whether you are a member of the Liberal Party or not, any youth (age 14-25) are invited our events. Information about all upcoming will be posted on this web page as it is available.
We recently established our London West Federal Liberal Youth Club. This riding club is certified by the Ontario Young Liberals, as well as the Liberal Party of Canada. We are also looking to found a London West Provincial Liberal Youth Club as soon as possible.

Ontario Young Liberals

Representing individuals between the ages of 14 and 25, the Ontario Young Liberals (OYL) play an important role in both the Ontario Liberal Party and the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario). The OYL and young liberals everywhere have become the voice of youth, the voice of change, and the voice of renewal within the party. We are a way for interested youth to become actively involved in politics and we provide a forum to affect meaningful change.
